Pratheeksha

Cancer is a deadly disease and finding out you have cancer can present many changes for you and your loved ones. It touches everyone around you but it is no longer a death sentence. Cancer patients need the support of their family, friends and community to make decisions about their care and move through the treatment process. Pratheeksha is an organization incepted in 2003 by the Cancer survivors in Kozhikode, Kerala. Pratheeksha was founded by Dr. NK Warrier, one of the reputed Medical Oncologists in Malabar, Kerala & his wife Dr. Mini. N. Warrier, Anaesthiologist, interested in supportive and palliative care of Cancer patients. Come; let us join you as teammates as you face the difficult road ahead in your fight against cancer!

The organization aims at:

The psychological counseling to Cancer patients who are currently taking treatment to improve their self confidence.
To alleviate the anxiety and fear of patients about Chemotherapy, Radiation and Surgery.
To give advice regarding cost of treatment and means to raise funds though “Pratheeksha” does not offer any monetary contribution.

Activities

To organize classes on Chemotherapy for patients
To educate the patients about modern treatment options for Cancer
To associate with similar associations outside India.
To make available the rehabilitative prosthesis for those who have completed Surgery and Radiation.

Every year Pratheeksha organizes an annual celebration for Cancer survivors around Onam, the National festival of Kerala. There will be seminars or discussions which are helpful to the patients followed by the Onam Saddhya keeping with the festive Onam spirit.
